The Hands of God

For those of you who know me I am, how shall I put it, a germophobe and one of the first things I do after a long day is to wash my hands thoroughly and remove all that city grime – for those of you who live in London you know exactly what I mean!! Today was no different but as I was washing my hands a wonderful thought dropped into my mind – what an awe-inspiring creation the human body is!! Grabbing my food from the microwave (and accidentally burning myself in the process) I proceeded to walk upstairs, with every step I couldn’t help but think how marvelously intelligent our God is. I looked down at my hands, from front to back, and thought that only a wonderful God could have designed the hands of a human so intricately. A bundle of cells each with an individual purpose – one side for touching, feeling, holding and the other side as a protective layer for all those blood vessels and nerves!!

While pondering this I couldn’t help to think, how can people not believe in a God and believe this all just chance.

When we look at the intricacies and complexities of the human body that in itself is all the evidence we need. Romans 1:20 says

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse”.

When we examine nature we see all the proof we need to believe in God.

Human beings are masterpieces that were clearly thought out and designed in a marvelous way.

Psalm 139 says:

For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body”

As I sit here contemplating how wonderful this all is, it reminds me that because we are fearfully and wonderfully made, God places  value on each and everyone of us and the value God places on us is immeasurable.

So if God values each of us how much more must we value, respect and lift up one another, because each person is Gods precious masterpiece. Be empowered, Be encouraged – you are a masterpiece!!

Where Is The Love!?

If you haven’t heard of the recent events that have been occurring in the world especially in America over the last few weeks you must be living under a rock or own no type of media technology. Racial tensions in America are at an all time high. Hate has taken over the hearts of many people on both sides to the point that people are now violently protesting their hate in the streets. The news coverage looks like it has gone back 100 years in history. There are those who claim to be Christian and yet run around the streets preaching hate – this has no place in my bible or my faith!! I am saddened to think that these people have either forgotten who Christ is or never truly knew Him.

So with all of this going on how do we continue to love and be the salt and light Jesus has called us to be?

Firstly, I believe we must open scripture and read what it says about the times we are living in. Christians continue to ask why is this happening but we must remember that it’s going to get worse before it gets better. I believe we are living in a time where everything goes, the moral degradation of society is higher than ever and people have become their own gods and moral authority.

Timothy an apostle of Christ writes;

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,  without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.

2 Timothy 3:1-5

Judging from this one scripture and many more that are like it, it’s fair to say some of whats happening in the world is not a huge surprise. With the absence of Christ and morality at an all time low people do not know where to turn or who to look to.

This is where we come in as Christians. It may seem scary and uncertain but we must remember we have a God who is control of everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. Before the foundations of the world He knew what was to happen. We must not worry or be anxious about anything (Philippians 4:6-7), we are children of the most high and we will be protected though all of this.

We must also remember the warning Matthew gives when he says;

And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.

Matthew 24:12

This verse is speaking to believers NOT unbelievers. Reading it literally shakes me up inside. Many, not a few, MANY hearts will grow cold. This means the majority of Christians. This is a very important scriptural warning because it can only mean one thing, it’s only going to get worse and if we are not reading the word everyday and basking in the presence of God and asking the Holy Spirit to help us in all that we do we may fall through the cracks.

Through all that is happening it is critical we continue to walk in love and remember no matter how bad it gets we know who wins in the end and it truly will be a glorious victory.

So I would like to encourage you to stay strong, be prayerful and keep loving each other after all, that is what we are all called to do. Remember who you are in Christ – you are a Child of God, you are unbreakable and He will never leave you nor forsake you. Be empowered. Be encouraged. Step out in Love and be the light in the dark.

Lots of love xx

What Does Faith In Jesus Mean?

This Sunday was another mind blowing service at Harvest Bible Chapel in Oakville Ontario. We had the privilege of hearing Pastor Karl Whittingstall who is our Pastor for Youth Ministries.

His message was about faith in Jesus and what it means. So what does Faith in Jesus mean?

He raised three key points during his message which really stuck with me:

  1. Faith in Jesus means I die to self.
  2. Faith in Jesus means I live what I believe
  3. Faith in Jesus means I let God’s love fuel me

Ill give you a quick break down of these points as I believe they are too important to keep to myself.

1. Faith in Jesus means I die to myself:

  • When we are born we are born into a fallen sinful world and when we make the decision to follow Christ the bible says we are reborn into a new creation. This death and rebirth isn’t physical but spiritual. The issue we have is though our spirits have been given life we carry our soul and physical body which have the desires of the world and flesh, so in order to be like Christ we must crucify the desires of the flesh and conform into the new creation and nature God has given to us.

How do we do this?

  • This is impossible to do on our own. We need the help of the precious Holy Spirit who takes residence within us after we are reborn, cooperating with him and renewing the mind and mind-sets (Romans 12:2). In this we go through a process of sanctification (Hebrews 10:14). God instructs us to put off our old selves which is corrupted by evil desires and to put on the new self (Christ) (Ephesians 4:22-24)

Two points Pastor Karl presented that can help us accomplish this

  • Repent: We need to acknowledge whats going on and turn from it making the decision to not go back.
  • Have a ‘kill sin’ plan: We need to actively attack our sin. We can use fight verses from the bible and pray and meditate on them.

2. Faith in Jesus means I live what I believe

Are we intentional and continuous about how we live? The problem we have is that we live for ourselves, our pleasures, our will, our wants. We must live sacrificial lives as this will change our relationship with others and God. Its starts in the heart then goes to the head then flows into your life – its about transformation and change.

Pastor Karl posed this question and I would like to pose it to you; what are you doing to change the way your heart informs your head?

If we are going to believe Gods word is true we must live like it.

3. Faith in Jesus means I let God’s love fuel me

The kindness on the cross should cause us to respond in immediacy and to the glory of God.

One quote he read that blew my mind is  by John Stott “No Christian who has grasped the truth could ever seriously contemplate reverting to the old life”.

The truth in this quote is so real. If we understand the magnitude of the price Jesus paid on the cross and the weight of our sins we would never consider turning back to our old ways. The work Christ Jesus did on the cross can never be repaid it is greater than anything and everyone.

How do we do this better?

  • We must see the love of God and understand the immensity of our sins then we will begin to understand the work on the cross.
  • Let Gods loves which was an expression of what he did fuel your life.

What a message this is. Pastor Karl opened my eyes and understanding to another level. Gods love is the greatest gift to humanity  (John 3:16), to send His only beloved son to die for a world who rejected Him is beyond understanding but I am eternally grateful and give my life as an act of thanksgiving and worship.

I’m so happy I got to share this with you all and hope it blesses someone out there.

Stay blessed x

Gods Wonderful Grace (Empowerment)

God’s Grace is truly wonderful – I don’t know about you but sometimes I feel so unworthy of the love and faithfulness that God offers each and every one of us. Isn’t it amazing when God highlights internal conflicts that you have either been suppressing or ignoring for months or even years!! Such is His love for you that He always wants you to strive for excellence for the greatness to which all His children are called.

Lately, I have been struggling with some internal conflicts which I have never dealt with – conflicts that I repressed even after giving my life to Christ thinking that I could just continue with life as before in some respects. Isn’t it shocking how conflicts, if not dealt with, can creep back into your life years later and threaten to consume you like a whirlwind laying waste to all that stand before it.

Issues of unforgiveness and bitterness can hinder one’s walk with the Lord causing hearts to harden and grow distant. In my case I truly believed I had forgiven and moved on until an incident occurred and Gods revelation became so clear to me. Yes, I had moved on but I still harboured bitterness towards that person and refused to let it go.

When God brings something to light it means it’s time to deal with it. He will give you the Grace (empowerment) to finish the work He has begun in you. For me, I can’t say its been a quick fix but hand in hand God is walking with me and I can honestly say it’s becoming much easier everyday. He is such a good good Father and He loves you.

Becoming a new creation means leaving behind all the old mindsets and attitudes we wore before accepting Christ and putting on His very nature, His attitudes, His mindset and His behaviour. The becoming part may be a long journey but with Jesus by your side you can do anything. I would love to encourage you with Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. Whatever your situation be teachable, know that He is with you and His love for you will never fail. Trust in Him and He will make your paths straight.

Stay blessed x
